ELUL

The Month of Elul According to Sefer Yetzirah

According to Sefer Yetzirah, each month of the Jewish year has a letter of the Hebrew alphabet, a zodiac sign, one of the twelve tribes of Israel, a sense, and a controlling limb of the body that correspond to it.

Introduction

Elul is the sixth of the twelve months of the Jewish calendar (counting from Nisan).

It is called "the month of repentance," "the month of mercy," and "the month of forgiveness." Elul follows the two previous months of Tamuz and Av, the months of the two great sins of Israel, the sin of the Golden Calf and the sin of the spies.

The four letters of the name Elul are an acronym for the initial letters of the phrase in the Song of Songs (6:3): "I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me." "I am to my beloved" in repentance and consummate desire to return to my soul-root in God. "And my beloved is to me" with Divine expression of mercy of forgiveness.

This is the month that "the King is in the field." All can approach Him, and He shines His countenance to all.

Elul is the month of preparation for the high holy days of Tishrei. It is the month that Moses ascended to Mount Sinai a third time for a period of forty days from Rosh Chodesh Elul to Yom Kippur, when he descended with the second tablets of the covenant. These days were days when God revealed to the Jewish people great mercy.

In "small numbering," Elul = 13, alluding to the 13 principles of Divine mercy that are revealed in the month of Elul.

Letter: Yud (י)

The yud is the first letter of the Tetragrammaton, G-d's essential Name Havayah, the Name of mercy. It is also the final letter of the Name Adnut, the Name which enclothes the Name Havayah to reveal and express it to the world. Thus, the yud is the beginning (of the essence of Divine mercy, Havayah) and the yud is the end (of the manifestation of Divine mercy, Adnut).

All created form begins with an essential "point," of energy and lifeforce, the point of the letter yud. The end of the creative process is as well a "point" of consummation and satisfaction, a yud. "In the beginning G-d created..." is the initial point; "and G-d concluded on the seventh day..." is the final point.

The word yud means "hand." Our sages interpret the verse: "Even My hand has founded the earth, and My right hand has developed the heavens," that "G-d stretched out His right hand to create the heavens and stretched out His left hand to create the earth." The right hand is the point of beginning; the left hand is the point of end.

In the above quoted verse, the left hand (referred to as "My hand" without any definite designation of right or left) appears before the right hand. This accords with the opinion of Hillel that "the earth preceded [the heavens]." The earth represents the consummation of Creation--"the end of action is first in thought."

The yud of Elul is, in particular, the left hand, the controller of the month's sense, the sense of action and rectification. This is the final point of Creation reaching its ultimate purpose and end, the yud of Adnut perfectly reflecting in created reality the yud of Havayah.

Mazal: Virgo (betulah, the virgin)

The betulah symbolizes God's beloved bride, Israel, the bride of the Song of Songs who says to her groom "I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me."

The word betulah appears for the first time in the Torah (and the only time in description of a specific woman) in praise of our matriarch Rebeccah, before her marriage to Isaac.

In Kabbalah the union of Isaac and Rebecca symbolizes the spiritual service of prayer and devotion to G-d. Isaac (Yitzchak, 208) plus Rebecca (Rivka, 307) = 515 = tefilah, "prayer."

In Chassidut the verse "I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me" refers, in particular, to the service of prayer of the month of Elul.

The "virgin" of Elul (Rebecca) gives birth (retroactively, with respect to the order of the months of the year) to the "twins" of Sivan (Jacob and Esau, the sons of Rebecca, as explained above). The first tablets, given in Sivan, were broken (because of sin). The second tablets, given to Moses in Elul (the month of repentance) are whole. Repentance is identified in Kabbalah with "mother" (in general, and Rebecca in particular). "Mother" is binah = 67 = Elul.

In Kabbalah, the "mother" remains forever (on the spiritual plane) a "virgin." In a continual state of teshuvah and tefilah her "ever-new" union with "father" never ceases--"two companions that never part." With the coming of Mashiach such will be the state of the lower groom and bride. ("Father" and "mother" correspond to the first two letters of Havayah --"the higher union"; "groom" and "bride" or "son" and "daughter" correspond to the second two letters of Havayah --"the lower union").

The betulah symbolizes as well the "virgin earth," the land of Israel destined to be married to the people of Israel, as the prophet declares: "As a young man marries a virgin so will your children marry you [the land of Israel]" (Isaiah 62:5). Here we see that the children marry "mother earth" who remains "virgin earth."

The earth represents the rectification of action, the sense of the month of Elul, as described above.

Tribe: Gad

Gad means "camp," as in the verse (the blessing of our father Jacob to his son Gad): "Gad shall organize [lit. camp] camps [army camps], and he shall return with all his camps" (Genesis 49:19). The special talent of Gad is to organize a "company."

The name Gad means as well "good fortune." It is truly the "good fortune" of Israel to be G-d's beloved bride, and this "good fortune" reveals itself through the means of our good deeds, especially those which are intended to rectify our blemishes and beautify ourselves, as a bride for her groom.

The "good fortune" of Gad relates, in Kabbalah, to the thirteen principles of mercy that are revealed in the month of Elul, in order to arouse the soul from its root (its "good fortune") to return to God.

Gad = 7. Gad was the 7th son to be born to Jacob. Mazal, the more common word for "good fortune" = 77. The middle letter of mazal is zayin = 7. When the two letters gimmel dalet that form the name Gad (= 7) are substituted for the zayin (= 7) of mazal, the word migdal, "tower," is formed. The verse states: "A tower [migdal = 77] of might [oz = 77] is the Name of G-d, into it shall run the tzadik and become exalted." In Kabbalah, the "tower of might" represents the bride, the betulah of Elul, the soul-root and mazal of the Jewish People. The tzadik, the groom, runs, with all of his might, to enter the "tower of might."

Sense: Action

The sense of action is the "sense" and inner "knowledge" that through devoted deeds of goodness one is always able rectify any blemished or broken state of the soul. This is the sense necessary for the spiritual service of Elul, the service of repentance and true teshuvah to G-d. The sense of action is thus the sense never to despair. This is the "point," the yud (of Elul), of Divine service. Without it one can neither begin (an act) or end.

The sense of action is the inclination to fix a broken object (to "save" a situation) rather than to throw it away.

In addition, the sense of action is the sense of organization and the sense of management of complex systems (as Gad, the tribe of Elul signifies "camps" and "company").

Of the letter yud of Elul it is said: "G-d with wisdom [the point of the yud] founded [rectified] the earth [the sense of action]."

Controller: Left Hand

As mentioned above, G-d stretched out His left hand to create the earth (and, as quoted above: "G-d with wisdom founded the earth" [Proverbs 3:19]).

The right hand (the more spiritual of the two hands, which creates the heavens--"Lift up your eyes and see Who has created these"--the inner, spiritual dimension of reality) controls the sense of sight, whereas the left (more physical) hand controls the sense of action.

The mitzvah (commandment of action) of the tefilin shel yad is performed on the left hand (the right hand puts it on the left hand, i.e. "sees" to its being performed on the left hand).

It is the left hand which touches the heart. This teaches us that all rectified action derives from the good emotions and intentions of the heart.

According to The Book of Formation (Sefer Yetzirah), each month of the Hebrew year has a letter of the Hebrew alphabet, a zodiac sign, one of the twelve tribes of Israel, a sense, and a controlling limb of the body that correspond to it.
AV (THE MONTH OF AV)

The Hebrew month of Av (or Menachem-Av, the consoler of Av) is the fifth of the twelve months of the Jewish calendar.

The name Av literally means "father." It derives from the root which means "to will" or "to desire."

It is the month of the "low point" of the Jewish calendar (the 9th of Av, the day of the sin of the spies and the destruction of both the first and second Temples in Jerusalem) as well as the month of the "high point" of the Jewish calender (the 15th of Av--"there are no happier days for Israel than the 15th of Av and Yom HaKippurim" (Mishnah Ta'anit 26:)--the day of finding one's predestined soul-mate).

This accords with the teaching of our sages that "theMashiach is born on the 9th of Av." Relative to all other souls of Israel, the soul of Mashiach, who comes to redeem Israel from her state of (spiritual as well as physical) exile, is like a groom to his bride. After his birth on the 9th of Av he reveals himself to his bride and betroths her on the 15th of Av.

Letter:  (tet)
The letter tet, which resembles a womb, equals 9, corresponding to the 9 months of pregnancy. In the month of Av the 9 months are condensed and concentrated into 9 days, from Rosh Chodesh Av (theyahrtzeit of Aaron the high priest, whose name comes from the word "pregnant") to the 9th of Av, the day, which as mentioned above is the birthday of Mashiach.
Zodiac Sign (mazal): Leo - Aryeh

The aryeh symbolizes the superrational power of Divine will (the meaning of the name Av, as mentioned above). The initial manifestation of G-d's will to destroy (the Temple) was in truth purely for the sake of reconstructing (the Temple with all of its spiritual meaning and significance for Israel and the entire world) for eternity.

In the words of our sages (Yalkut Shimoni, Yermiyahu, 259 ): "The lion [Nevudchanetzar, who is referred to in the Bible as a lion--Yermiyahu 4:7] came on the month of the lion [Av] and destroyed the lion [the Temple, which is referred to in the Bible, especially with regard to the alter, as a lion], in order that the lion [G-d, of Whom is said 'the lion roars, who shall not fear'--Amos 3:8] come on the month of the lion and rebuild the lion."

This secret is also reflected in the numerical value ofaryeh. Aryeh in gematria = 216 = gevurah ("might").Gevurah is the Divine power responsible for tzimtzum(contraction and diminution of Divine light and energy, as is said with regard to the beginning of Av: "When Aventers we diminish in joy" [Mishnah Ta'anit 26:]) and destruction. But 216 = 3 ? 72. 72 = chesed("lovingkindness"), the Divine power which "builds" all of reality, as is said (Psalms 89:3): "the world is built with [by the power of] chesed." Three times chesedcorresponds to the building of all three Temples, who are all contained and find their eternal consummation in the third Temple, to be built speedily in our days byMashiach. For this reason the aryeh appears to the right, in the place of chesed, in the Divine Chariot (Ezekiel 1:10).

Tribe of Israel: Shimon

The name Shimon comes from the word "to hear." The sin of the spies on the 9th of Av entailed their speaking evil of the land of Israel and the people's accepting--"hearing"--the evil tongue. Thus the general rectification of the month of Av is the rectification of hearing.

Shimon is the only tribe that Moses did not explicitly bless at the end of the Torah. This was due to his "frustration" with the tribe of Shimon because of their involvement (more than all the other tribes) in the sin of Pe'or (prostitution with foreign women, which resulted in idolatry). The name Shimon divides into two words which spell sham avon, "there is iniquity."

In a certain sense, Moses (from the tribe of Levi) was most closely related (in spirit) to Shimon than to any other tribe. "Shimon and Levi are brothers" (Genesis 49:5) said our father Jacob in blessing his sons. The two together (Shimon leading his younger brotherLevi) took revenge for the rape of their sister Dinah, and destroyed the entire city of Shechem.

In Kabbalah we are taught that the primary reincarnation of Moses is in Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, he who more than any other of the sages revealed the inner dimension of the Torah of Moses (in the HolyZohar).

The "degeneration" of the power of Shimon leads to the destruction of the Temple. The rectification and elevation of that very power brings about the eternal reconstruction of the Temple.

The rectification of Shimon (the rectification of the sins and iniquities of Israel which brought to the destruction of the Temple in the month of Av, the month of Shimon) is by his clinging to the most essential attribute of Moses--humility. The word avon("sin") permutes to spell anav ("humble") the unique term by which the Torah praises Moses (Numbers 12:3): "And the man Moses was very humble [anav], more than any other man on the face of the earth." The name Shimon transforms (in the month of Av) from "there is iniquity" (sham avon) to "there is the humble one" (sham anav).

The ability of Shimon to so "metamorphasize" depends upon his inner sense of hearing. Moses addresses Israel with the most all-inclusive statement of the Torah (Deuteronomy 6:4) : "Hear [shemah]  O' Israel...." Moses speaks to Israel through the soul-root ofShimon. Inner hearing (derher in Yiddish) comes with the deep sense of humility in the soul.

Even though Moses did not explicitly bless Shimon, our sages teach us that he alluded to him in the first word of his blessing to Judah (Deuteronomy 33:7): "Hear [shemah] G-d the voice of Judah...." (This phrase complements the verse "Hear O' Israel..."; in gematria, "Hear G-d the voice of Judah" = 602 = 7 ? 86 [Elokim, G-d], "Hear O' Israel..." = 1118 = 13 ? 86).

In the division of the land of Israel to the twelve tribes,Shimon inherited his portion within the larger portion of Judah (this is the only instance that one tribe inherited its portion within another). When the two namesShimon and Judah are added together: 466 plus 30 = 496 = malchut ("kingdom") Thus we learn that themalchut of Judah depends upon the "presence" and "partnership" of Shimon.

Judah corresponds to the month of Nissan and the sense of speech. Shimon corresponds to the month ofAv (the first two letters and "sub-root" in Hebrew of the word aviv, the name in Torah for the month ofNissan) and the sense of hearing. Av is the 5th month from Nissan, whose letter is hei = 5.

The two senses of speaking and hearing are obviously a pair, just as in the sin of the people's hearing (accepting) the "evil tongue" spoken by the spies, the sin of the 9th of Av.

Thus we conclude that the power of the month of Av(the month of [apparent] destruction) is to "hear" the message "spoken" by the month of Nissan (the month of redemption), and integrate the first and foremost power of Israel?leadership?into the consciousness of the Jewish people.

This is the secret of the "pregnancy" and "birth" ofMashiach (the quintessential leader of Israel) from the 1st of Av (the beginning of his 9 day pregnancy) to the 9th of Av (his birth). He then fully unites with the consciousness of the people, "in matrimony," on the 15th of Av.

Sense: Hearing

"To hear" in Hebrew means "to understand," to fully integrate into one's consciousness (into one's heart, not only to understand intellectually in one's mind). To hear another is to fully understand his dilemma and emphasize with him. Hearing is receiving--kabbalah(first revealed by Rabbi Shimeon Bar Yochai).

In the beginning of Isaiah (read on the Shabbat before the 9th of Av), it says: "if you desire [tovu , from the word Av] and hear [the sense of Av], you shall partake of the goodness of the land."

The sense of hearing is the sense of inner balance, the foundation of rectified existence. (Imbalance is the source of all fall and destruction). A well balanced ear, a well oriented sense of hearing, possesses the ability to discern and distinguish in everything one hears truth from falseness, as is said (Job 12:11 and 34:3): "the ear discerns words" ozen malin tivchan (the initial letters of this phrase spell emet--"truth").

Controlling Limb: Left Kidney

The "advice" given by the left kidney is how to properly hear and integrate truth into one's consciousness.

In accordance with the general principle that "right" is always more spiritual than "left," the sense of thought (of the month of Iyar), controlled by the right kidney, is relatively more spiritual than the sense of hearing, controlled by the left kidney.

The two kidneys are the "male" and "female" advisors of the soul. The right kidney advises how to rectify one's character traits through the process of careful introspection (the sense of thought of the month ofIyar). The left kidney advises how to absorb truth into one's consciousness (the sense of hearing of the month of Av)

The word for kidney, kulyah, comes from kol--"all." Kol= 50. Our sages teach us that "at the age of 50 one is able to give advice." The two kidneys are two complementary sets of 50 (as the 50 parallel 50 loops of the two sets of the over-hang drapery of the Tabernacle). 50 plus 50 = 100 = 10 squared, the consummate state of rectification, 10 (powers of the soul) "interincluded" in 10.

Aquarius Full Moon: Wed. August 1, 2012, 11:28 pm
EDT, Sun 10.15 Leo, Moon 10.15 Aquarius

New Moon on Friday, August 17th, 2012, at 11:54 AM EDT.

Midday Friday, a New Moon occurs, marking the beginning of a new cycle. The Cancer New Moon cycle ends and the Leo New Moon cycle begins. The New Moon in Leo is an excellent time for formulating some goals regarding "all things Leo". Concentrate on new ways to enhance your romantic life, creative endeavors and hobbies, and relationship with children. Think about the keywords for this self-expressive fire sign -- such things as proud, magnanimous, generous, hospitable, caring, warm, authoritative, active, and open -- and consider ways to incorporate these traits into your personality. With this potent Leo energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. It's time to make some plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks' time after the Full Moon occurs. Concentrate on new ways to enhance romance and creativity, and to build up your feelings of confidence and pride.

The New Moon sextiles a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Libra, and this aids or encourages us to focus our energies and to consider the long term. There may be relationship tests that help us to move forward with greater understanding of where we stand.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 25 degrees and 8 minutes of Leo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 21 to 29 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

Moon phase cycle: Bigger picture:

Aug  9, 2012     2:55 PM  Sun Square Moon (Last Quarter Moon)
Aug 17, 2012    11:54 AM Sun Conjunct Moon (New Moon)

(Times are Eastern Time)

The Sun is in Leo; Mercury is in Leo; Venus is in Cancer; Mars is in Libra.

The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 22nd. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individualnot content with simply being just one of the team. It's time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform. Like the flowers and fruit of the season--blossoming and ripened--this is a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.

Mercury is in Leo from June 25-August 31. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal--and the more grand a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.

Venus is in Cancer from August 7-September 6. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure.

Mars in Libra July 3-August 23. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides to an issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don't want to be the "bad guy", and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style. We are indirect in approach and inclined towards engaging in mental debates, yet we also attempt to make the opposition comfortable! Passive-aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy.

Jupiter is in Gemini from June 11th, 2012 to June, 2013. Read aboutJupiter's transit through Gemini here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Cancer from August 7-September 6. Under this influence, we tend to "play it safe" when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion are most important to us, and provide us with a sense of inner security. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return. However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers' feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached.

This week: Venus' involvement in a T-square on Tuesday and Wednesday can suggest complex relationship dynamics. Fears stimulated now can be about loss and rejection, but also about being controlled or limited by too much closeness. A trine between and Chiron can act to soften the intensity of this difficult configuration, or at least to stimulate a feeling that growth can be achieved by working through problems.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Cancer August 7-September 6. Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time - these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Venus trine Neptune August 9-10. We perceive romantic situations as if they were "designed" just for us. A magical, romantic time. The pleasures of life are experienced fully. Romance is highly favored. We see the very best in people now, and this eases our interactions and takes the pressure off in personal relationships.
Venus opposition Pluto August 14-15. This is a period of intense feelings, as well as possible emotional distress and tension caused by romantic troubles or social manipulation. An experience of being used or abused physically, emotionally or sexually may cause us suffering or disappointment. Sexually driven or primal emotions are likely now. Fears of betrayal may get the best of us.
Venus square Uranus August 15-16. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last--but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus trine Chiron August 15-16. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune August 24-25. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

This Week's Calendar

Chiron Mars sesquiquadrature Chiron. We can be easily offended under the influence of this transit. Touchiness. Difficulties expressing our anger or desires in a direct manner.

SunsesquiquadratePluto Sun sesquiquadrate Pluto. A tendency to want to control our lives through some form of manipulation is strong during this influence. Meeting with obstacles in our paths, however, can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process.

VenusoppositionPluto Venus opposition Pluto. An intense emotional or sexual attraction, a very revealing, intimate encounter, or a powerful desire to be close to and share our deepest feelings with someone is very likely now. Emotions and issues in a close relationship that have been brewing beneath the surface for quite awhile come to the surface at this time, possibly in a very disruptive way. All of our relationships intensify and we need to be aware of a tendency to act in a rather compulsive, demanding way towards others. This is an "all or nothing" energy. Manipulative behavior, fear of betrayal, and power struggles are possible.

MarsconjunctSaturn Mars conjunct Saturn. Feelings of being blocked are possible, as enthusiasm meets with realism. Work takes on definite shape, and we can see results from our efforts. This gives us a sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness and purposefulness. This is a good time to temper our energy and to exercise better judgment. It's also a strong period for getting and feeling organized. Seniority is favored now. Traditional methods work, and thoroughness brings rewards. Pushing ahead, however, can be costly or could result in frustration, as "slow and steady" is the only way to go now.

SunSesquiquadrateUranus Sun sesquiquadrate Uranus. During this transit, we feel the need for action, but if we don't know where we're headed, we might take the wrong turn. Unexpected changes in plans or events can test our patience, and we might feel a bit out of control. However, they could stimulate us to try new approaches and they certainly act to cut boredom. This transit could offer us the drive to do something new, but avoid making hasty major decisions for the time being.

Venustrine Venus trine Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It's a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another.

VenussquareUranus Venus square Uranus. Values and tastes may clash, and group activities may suffer as a result. Impulsive attractions to both people and material goods can lead us astray. Avoid impulse buys at this time. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness is probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye, and we might be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results. We may struggle with freedom versus intimacy issues at this time. Hold off on decision-making with regards to finances.

SunsextileSaturn Sun sextile Saturn. We feel grounded and stable. It's easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it's steady. We are taking into account practical considerations and we are especially aware of the element of time. We are more able to discipline ourselves and put our egos aside in order to get the job done.

MercuryquincunxPluto Mercury quincunx Pluto. Something we write or say could trigger power struggles or hostility from others. We may be plagued with self-doubt in our attempts to make decisions. Decisions made now are unlikely to be objective. Re-assessing decisions we have made already, or adjusting our plans, may be in order. Second-guessing.

MercuryChiron Mercury quincunx Chiron. Decisions can be hard to come by under this influence, as we tend to doubt our perceptions or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now, which can lead to misunderstandings.

MercurytrineUranus Mercury trine Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from "out of the blue". Original, creative ideas are easy to come by.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main pageand in our Daily Trends Calendar)

August 12
The Moon is in communicative, curious Gemini all day, harmonizing with the Sun this morning, when we can be more "successful" socially. However, today's Mars-Chiron challenging aspect can bring up touchiness and heightened sensitivity. We might easily grow to anger or become offended. There can be difficulties expressing our anger or desires in a direct manner. Later today, we might make significant headway on mental work, as we experience more focus and a stronger business sense, as well as realistic expectations both of ourselves and of others.

A void of course Moon occurs from 5:51 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow, Monday, August 13th, at 4:29 AM EDT.

August 13
The Moon leaves Gemini at 4:29 AM EDT, when it enters Cancer. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. We tend to respond to challenges or stress by retreating or withdrawing under the influence of a protective Cancer Moon, and we are especially concerned with family and close loved ones. However, this afternoon, the Moon touches upon a configuration that is up and coming involving a T-square between Venus, Pluto, and Uranus, and fears of both loss and of closeness can make for some complex interactions.

The Moon ends its void period at 4:29 AM EDT, when the Moon enters Cancer.

August 14
The Moon is in Cancer all day, where it feels right at home. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us. The Sun in hard aspect to Pluto today can point to a tendency to want to control our lives through some form of manipulation. Meeting with obstacles in our paths can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process.

August 15
The Moon is in sensitive Cancer until 2:06 PM EDT. This morning, Venus opposes Pluto, and problematic areas of a relationship can come to a head for handling. We need to avoid a tendency towards making ultimatums, manipulating others, or jumping to very negative conclusions. Fear of betrayal or loss can be at the root of troublesome behavior now. The emotional "slush" that is pulled to the surface can be revealing. Mars aligns with Saturn in Libra this morning, and this can stimulate a situation in which our goals or desires collide with reality in the form of a sobering circumstance, or it can help us to focus by directing our energies to practical concerns. Traditional methods and conservative approaches work best. Pushing ahead too hard or fast can be costly or could result in frustration, as "slow and steady" is the only way to go now, even though the Sun's hard aspect to Uranus can stimulate impatience with rules and schedules. Venus is approaching both a trine to Chiron and a square to Uranus, exact early in the day tomorrow. There can be a confusing desire to be close and to fear that very intimacy. However, if we open our minds to the need for change in our relationships, we might feel as if we've made a breakthrough.

A void of course Moon occurs from 4:22 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Leo at 2:06 PM EDT.

August 16
Early morning, Venus trines Chiron, opening our hearts to learning from one another, and then Venus squares Uranus, and there can be a sense that we need to change, or be changed. The Moon is in Leo all day, and is Balsamic, and reflection is favored over innovation. Tomorrow's New Moon will bring fresh energy along with the start of a new Moon cycle. For now, we might think about the changes we've made in our domestic routines, family life, and homes. It's best not to begin a new project, relationship, or other important initiative during the Balsamic phase of the Moon, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness--the future is unclear for now.

August 17
The Sun sextiles Saturn this morning, and we benefit from a sense that we can reach our goals more effectively if we work on them more systematically, patiently, and diligently. We are more able to discipline ourselves and put our egos aside in order to get the job done. The Moon is in Leo until 8:34 PM EDT, and is New at 11:55 AM. This New Moon in Leo presents us with a strong period for formulating goals regarding "all things Leo". We can concentrate on new ways to enhance our romantic lives, creative endeavors and hobbies, and relationship with children. The New Moon sextiles a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Libra, and this aids or encourages us to focus our energies and to consider the long term. There may be relationship tests that help us to move forward with greater understanding of where we stand. The Moon enters practical Virgo at 8:34 PM, and we can begin to work on the details of our plans.

A void of course Moon occurs from 1:56 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Virgo at 8:34 PM EDT.

August 18
The Moon is in analytical Virgo all day, and the tendency now is to keep busy and to focus on fixing problems and helping others. We may tend to worry, fret, and pace more than usual under the influence of a Virgo Moon, and with Mercury forming a quincunx to both Pluto and Chiron today, this trait may be pronounced, as decision making is far from straightforward. Communication is likewise. Re-assessing decisions we have made already, or adjusting our plans, may be in order. There can be a lot of second-guessing. However, by evening, Mercury's trine to Uranus can help stimulate confidence in our perceptions and the discovery of creative solutions. Blocks release. We are less inclined to think obsessively or to stick with a structured approach that may have gotten us into a rut earlier today. Communications are more progressive and interesting.

A void of course Moon occurs from 7:27 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Libra on Monday, August 20th, at 12:46 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Gemini

MoonGeminiOur basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.

When the Moon is in Cancer

MoonCancerThe restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.

The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.

When the Moon is in Leo

MoonLeoThe Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

When the Moon is in Virgo

MoonVirgoWe instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

When the Moon is in...Transits of the Moon through the Signs.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Leo "This I do for me" is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it's not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn't come from the heart, it shouldn't matter now.

Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.

Venus in Cancer Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time - these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.

Mars in Libra "I'm giving you a definite maybe" - that's the motto of the cycle you're now entering. It's a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You'll quickly learn to balance this out, or you'll discover that there is no peace in compromise - and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation - and if anyone's ever up to it, you are now.

Jupiter in Gemini Facilitating the transfer of ideas and information takes on a special priority for you now. Writing, studying, and communicating play a bigger role in your life as a result. The belief that well-informed people will make the right decisions becomes an article of faith. Just remember: sometimes people know the right thing to do and STILL do something different!

Saturn in Libra Relationships and fairness take on a special importance in your life under the cycle you have just begun. An insistence on principles that don't allow room for personal differences can be a self-defeating tendency. True partnership means commitment and being responsible to the other person - a lesson that takes on greater importance as this cycle progresses.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...

Ascendant/Descendant axis

The horizontal axis describes the drama of adult relationships between two people who are potentially equals. No matter which pair of opposite signs are found on the Ascendant/Descendant axis, this is the battleground on which we build a sense of ourselves as individuals, not in isolation, but through our relationship to our partners and significant others.
Audience: What if your ruling planet is in the 7th house?

Clare: Well, that would mean that you will find yourself, your identity, through your relationship with others. This also means that the whole area of relationships is going to be a major theme in your life. For example, both Freud and Jung had their Sun in the 7th house, and both worked extensively throughout their lives with their clients in significant and committed one-to-one relationships, out of which each developed his own particular ideas and schools of psychological thought.
If the Ascendant describes our personal interface with the world around us, the Descendant, which lies directly opposite the Ascendant and marks the western horizon, describes how we meet 'the other'. The Descendant describes the quality of our one-to-one relationships, and it is here that we are challenged to engage in the balancing act of compromise and adjustment. The 7th house almost always describes what we project, and all relationships inevitably catalyse some form of projection, which can be both positive and negative.

Audience: Does that mean that both Freud and Jung met themselves through all their clients and patients?

Clare: Yes, that's a good point and certainly true. Freud's Ascendant/Descendant axis was Scorpio/Taurus, with his Sun in Taurus in the 7th house. Jung's axis was Aquarius/Leo, with his Sun in Leo in the 7th house. It is no accident, therefore, that, broadly speaking, Freud's work centred around sexuality and the buried emotions which can have such a powerful effect on the body, and Jung's work centred around the discovery of the Self, and the relationship of the individual to the collective.

In fact, we can never tell from the chart itself exactly where, on any particular spectrum, an individual will be identified. It is equally possible that we may identify with the Descendant, particularly in our childhoods, when our personal survival (Ascendant) is literally dependent on others (Descendant). So we tend to develop an early and heightened sensitivity to the reactions and attitudes of others towards us. Our sense of identity is often derived from the way we are 'mirrored' by others, an empirical discovery which led to the development of the field of 'object relations' in psychology. What this means astrologically is that we often perceive ourselves, not through our own lens (the Ascendant), but through the mirroring we receive from others (the Descendant).

Take the example of a child with Aries rising, born into an environment where good behaviour, good manners and consideration for others are given the highest priority. This child will receive positive reinforcement for being 'good', 'considerate' and 'accomplished', and negative reinforcement for being 'selfish' or 'self-willed'. It can take many years for that individual to develop the courage to develop their Aries Ascendant, even though it is strongly imprinted from the moment of birth. It is therefore important not to assume that the Ascendant is fully developed and fully functioning. In fact, I think it is normal to identify more readily with the Descendant complex in our youth. Perhaps this is why our adult relationships are so valuable and necessary in helping us to find ourselves, since they activate this axis. Conversely, people with a Libra Ascendant are natural arbitrators and mediators, concerned with avoiding confrontation or disputes. This approach can be the result of having been born into an environment which was at war, or in which the parents were in deep conflict. The Libra rising individual often has a real fear of discord, anger or violence, since in their childhoods this would have been experienced as deeply threatening to their survival.

The price which has to be paid for identifying with the Libra end of the axis is that Mars will be projected, which means that the individual's sense of personal potency, agency and focus is also projected onto partners. This can become an uncomfortable double bind, if they are dependent on their partners for energy, decision-making and direction.

Audience: Sorry, Clare, but you are referring to the Descendant as the parental relationship. Surely the parental relationship is described by the 4th/10th house axis? How can the 7th house describe the parents?

Clare: It is true that the 4th and 10th houses describe the parental relationship, but it is also true that the Ascendant/Descendant axis describes the way we locate ourselves, as children, in relation to the parental relationship. This is the classic Oedipal triangle, with the child on one side and the parents on the other, and the role we played in this triangular relationship will inevitably affect our adult relationships.

Audience: But we are also talking about the Aries/Libra axis in general, aren't we?

Clare: That's right. We all have the Aries/Libra axis somewhere in our charts, so these themes are archetypal, although they will find personal expression in the houses across which these signs fall. Would anyone like to have a look at their own Ascendant/Descendant axis?

Jane: Can we have a look at my Ascendant/Descendant axis, which is Leo-Aquarius, although I don't know whether I have any planets in either the 1st or 7th houses?

Clare: Let's start by considering the general nature of the Leo/Aquarius axis, which we know is going to be constellated in your relationships. This is the axis of identity, of 'finding ourselves in the crowd', of discovering how we can make our own unique contribution to the group or collective to which we belong. And your relationships will no doubt provide you with the kinds of circumstances and experiences that enable you to define and understand yourself more clearly in this context.

Jane

Let's have a look first of all at the Aquarius Descendant to see how you are likely to have been 'mirrored' by others at an early age. Aquarius is a cool, detached, intellectual sign concerned with conforming to, or rebelling against, the expectations of parents, authority figures in general, and social rules and norms. I would therefore imagine that you were particularly sensitive to the expectations of others from a very young age, and adapted and adjusted your behaviour accordingly in order to gain their acceptance and approval. The personal ruler of the Descendant is Saturn in the 4th house, which indicates early responsibility and a desire to gain your father's love and respect by working hard and being sensible and adult. At the same time, with Uranus as collective ruler of your Descendant and in the 12th house, it seems as if the rebel or 'free spirit' part of you provides an imaginative and creative escape from the responsibilities of relationships, as if a part of you will always remain detached and free. With Aquarius on the Descendant, you are likely to be attracted to cool, detached, intellectuals, or people who are unusual in some way. With Saturn in the 4th house, your relationships are likely to involve hard work and family responsibilities, although with Uranus in the 12th house there is a need to remain separate and detached from the world. Does any of this ring true?

Jane: Yes it does, particularly the Saturn ruler of my Descendant. In fact, I was literally rejected and had to live with my grandparents from an early age because my parents couldn't cope. So I felt very alone in my childhood, and I suspect that I did have to adapt and adjust to the rules and learn to stand on my own feet at an early age. But I can also relate to the Uranus ruler, because there is a part of me that refuses to conform or obey the rules, so I had many fantasies of escape and freedom, and in fact I still do! And my husband was exactly as you describe - cool, detached and intellectual, leaving me to look after all the practicalities, but at the same time he did not support me at all.

Audience: And although Jane has a Leo Ascendant, the Sun, which is her chart ruler, is in Capricorn, which is a similar kind of Saturn story, isn't it?

Clare: That's exactly right, so a strong Sun-Saturn, fire-earth theme is already emerging from this relationship axis. The personal ruler of the Descendant is Saturn in the fire sign of Sagittarius, and the ruler of the Ascendant in fire is the Sun - but it is in the Saturn-ruled earth sign of Capricorn. With Leo rising and the Sun in Capricorn, I suspect that your marriage has been the catalyst that has taught you to value and stand up for yourself in order to gain the recognition your Leo Ascendant needs, and to develop the self-sufficiency and personal authority of the Capricorn Sun.

Jane: That's right, although it has been a long and difficult journey. But I have grown up a great deal as a result of my marriage. I am sure that the 12th house Uranus was also an important factor, because it helped me to eventually separate from my husband when I felt just too trapped. And now I am developing my own writing, which I could never have done before, so my Sun-Mercury conjunction in Capricorn has come to life, and it feels really good.

Audience: How does this work if you have Virgo and Pisces on the Ascendant/Descendant axis?

Clare: With Virgo on the Ascendant, we are usually extremely self-critical, expecting nothing less than perfection from ourselves. So much attention goes into the details of the world, and into getting it right, that our partners can get away with murder. Virgo Ascendant people will have an immense attraction to and admiration of Piscean types, those who are fluid, artistic and inspired in some way, or alternatively, those who are vulnerable or sick, because then they can use all their practical talents and capabilities to care for their partner.

Audience: What about someone born with Pisces on the Ascendant and Virgo on the Descendant? Are they likely to attract Virgoans?

Clare: Yes, Virgo-type people. That could be someone who has their Sun in Virgo or Gemini, or someone who is Mercury-ruled or with a strongly tenanted 3rd or 6th house. With Pisces on the Ascendant, we tend to instinctively absorb and merge with our surroundings. This is a very chameleon-like Ascendant, and people with Pisces rising are normally so well camouflaged that they tend to attract partners who take on the role analysing and defining and structuring all this fluidity. This can easily feel like criticism, if you have Virgo on the Descendant, but it is of course one's own projected ability to develop the analytical skills which give shape to, and complement, the Piscean sensitivity and imagination.

Audience: So presumably you will also be aware of the Virgo side of the axis as well?

Clare: It is usually the case that, with Pisces rising, we are born into an environment where practical skills and an orderly, precise and businesslike approach to the world were highly valued. For many years we may try to define ourselves according to the way we have been mirrored. But as we mature and enter into adult partnerships, we will want to let ourselves off the hook and allow ourselves to merge and float, leaving the precision, order and control to our partner. I think that our Ascendant/Descendant axis often works like this - we are subconsciously looking for someone else to inhabit the Descendant for us, so that we can develop the qualities of our Ascendant.

Audience: But Clare, if you have Pisces rising, would you not be subconsciously critical of others, but just not recognise that you are?

Clare: Although we tend to assume that the qualities of the sign on the Descendant will be projected, it is not always immediately obvious 'who is doing what to whom'. However, if we think of the opposite signs on this relationship axis as belonging to one complete spectrum, then we can immediately understand the general quality and the nature of the themes which will emerge in our relationships. We know that the Virgo/Pisces axis will involve themes of merging and separating, accepting and judging, order and chaos, control and trust, sickness and health, and with this axis on the Ascendant/Descendant, we are going to end up doing a Virgo/Pisces dance with our partner.
Incidentally, our discussion seems to have turned into a Virgo/Pisces dance as we speak. I sense from your questions that you are trying to get precision, to analyse this axis so that it can be clearly understood, but remember that we are also talking about Pisces here, so we will also have to allow it to remain mysterious to some extent, and beyond our analytical grasp.

  • Exemplar. His humiliation was as much lower than ours as his exaltation is higher. He was the true Nazarene as well as the true Nazarite. We speak now of a Nazarene as he was estimated in the days of our Lord, when the best things had acquired the worst character. Then, even the Lord himself, the pattern of all excellence, was despised. The long years during which the Saviour lived in retirement, unknown to the world, and of which no record exists, with the single exception of that which tells us be went up when twelve years old, and sat in the midst of the doctors in Jerusalem, these were the years of his Nazariteship separated from the world unto God, We are not, indeed, to suppose that these years were lost, or were spent in activity having no immediate bearing on the great work be came to perform. When we know that his work was essentially of so spiritual and sublime a nature as to be beyond the sight of human eye - that his life was essentially an inward life, and his works essentially inward works - temptations and victories, changes of state that angels could but dimly perceive - we may well conceive that Nazareth was the scene of some of those stupendous operations that were but faintly shadowed by those of the Nazarite whom the Lord raised up as a deliverer of Israel. Ascendant or House I

The First House or Ascendant represents one's behaviour in the eyes of others, and also one's health. It corresponds to the way the individual acts in the world. It is the image of the personality seen by others and the person's visible behaviour expressed outwardly. The 1st House is in analogy with Aries and thus Mars too, and then the Sun. It is an angular house, the most important one with the Midheaven, maybe even more so due to its link with the body and health.

Planets: Moon

The Moon represents instinctive reaction, unconscious predestination, everyday mood, sensitivity, emotions, the feminine side of the personality, intuition, imagination. For a man, she represents his mother and later his wife, and his relationship with women in general. For a woman, the Moon is almost as important as the Sun and the Ascendant. Her element is water, she is cold and moist, she rules Cancer, is in exaltation in Taurus and is in analogy with the stomach.

She symbolizes the mother, wife, the crowd, the Moon is associated with birth and childhood. Tradition also matches her with the end of life, after Saturn the old age, it is thus customary to go back to one's place of birth to die: the end of life meets the very beginning.

Temperament : Lymphatic

Characterology : Emotive, non Active and Primary type or Non-Emotive, non Active and Primary, Nervous or Amorphous type.

Interpretation of the 6° Virgo symbolic degree

"A poor woman steps aside as an arrogant and lavishly dressed lady walks towards a couple who is standing back-to-back."

Humble, generous, and passive character which, although not unsociable, behaves gawkily when dealing with other people, particularly with persons of the opposite gender. Marriage is an area which is fraught with problems. A nasty female who enjoys doing harm, just for the sake of it, may prove to have a devastating influence.

Moon in Virgo

On the day and at the time of your birth, the Moon was in the sign of Virgo. You have a strong need for security and your constant concern is to keep your intimate environment under control. You treasure and you protect all the things that make you feel comfortable. You have no exaggerated ambitions, no grandiose and boundless dreams. You only strive to organize all the elements of your everyday life, to find a place for each thing and to improve yourself. You can relax only if your habits are not disturbed by external events. You are selective in your intimate sphere and with your attachments, you are perfectly organized and in line with the self-set rules you establish as time goes by. For you, life is a puzzle composed of human pieces, a chessboard where you move according to an obvious logic. Daily landmarks and well-known items are important to you. You have the soul of a collector.

Moon in House I

The Moon is in the 1st House. When you deal with a person whom you do not know, or when you are facing a new situation, you try above all to adjust. You absorb external parameters in order to blend into the environment and feel safe as if you were at home. Adaptation is mainly a matter of sensitivity. If the contact is good, everything is fine. But should outside issues disturb your tranquillity and your need for well-being, then, you cut off your lines of communication.

Moon Dominant

If the Moon is part of your natal chart's planetary dominants, in astrology, you are said to be a Lunarian: the driving force behind your actions is mainly the pursuit of well-being and tranquillity. Your sensitive and romantic self lives on those periods of rest during which you let your imagination wander at will. This is your way of finding inspiration and balance. Nothing is allowed to disturb your feeling of fulfilment and security within a harmonious cell, be it a family or a clan. More than other people, the Lunarian is attached to those moments during which one forgets one's worries and lets oneself cast adrift aimlessly, with no other goal than to be lulled into an ambiance, a situation, or a perfect moment. Many people do not understand such absences and their meaning, which is to regain strength. These people readily describe you with such unflattering terms as apathy and nonchalance. Never mind! Some inspirations require surrendering as well as striking a balance derived from alternate action and passivity. Your qualities are expressed to the fullest in situations which demand familiarity and privacy. Your capacities to respect and blend into your environment is at least as valuable as some other people's aggressive dispositions. However, you are well-advised to avoid indolence and renunciation out of laziness or indifference.
